IQRick: well, our main goal here is to talk about stuff in the world of
Magic,
IQRick: but that readily extends to gaming.
IQRick: I have a soft spot for computer gaming, of course.
Sethiroph: Well, then, if you don't mind, what is your opinion of Exodus?
Sethiroph: Ah, a Quaker?
IQRick: Actually, no. That's about the only non-flight-sim I don't have.
IQRick: Exodus is a typical set.
Sethiroph: Hm....Neither 1 or 2?
IQRick: Better than Weatherlight.
IQRick: I have the shareware version somewhere on my HD.
IQRick: I'll probably get Q2 when Activision releases an expansion in a few
montsh.
IQRick: hiho, S98
S98lakefan: hello
Sethiroph: Hm...Well, I generally seem to think that the cards are, well, sub
par. But of course, I
IQRick: so, waht do you like in Exodus.
Sethiroph: only look for creatures.
S98lakefan: Pandemonium
Sethiroph: Soul Warden, surprisingly.
IQRick: hehe.
Sethiroph: And Theft of Dreams looks interesting.
IQRick: Interesting choices.
IQRick: I woulda figured Null Brooch.
Sethiroph: What do you like?
IQRick: Hatred.
IQRick: And the new Balance.
IQRick: whatever it's called.
Sethiroph: Oath of Lieges?
Sethiroph: Or Cayaclysm?
Sethiroph: Null Brooch....Hm....It looks applicable if your hand is empty.
IQRick: Cataclysm isn't so bad, but a little slow.
IQRick: And even if it isn't, it still might be good.
Sethiroph: Of course, I'm not to "specialized" in non-creature spells.
Sethiroph: too
IQRick: c'mon, it's the first counterspell that can't be countered. That's a
biggie.
Sethiroph: I like that some of my Portal favorites have come in, even though
they are a little more
Sethiroph: difficult to use in normal Magic.
Sethiroph: Except Raging Goblin.
IQRick: yeah, Cataclysm is the one I was referring to. It hought you were
talking abotu Seismic ass
IQRick: ault.
IQRick: Hey, Raging Goblin is pretty cool.
IQRick: One of these days, Goblins will be totally out of control.
IQRick: They're close to it now.
Sethiroph: I can understand your argument. I used to try other types of
decks,
Sethiroph: but they became too expensive.
Sethiroph: About the brooch.
S98lakefan: I like Hatred too
Sethiroph: Creatures are cheap, money and mana- wise.
IQRick: Yeah, Hatred is a gamewinner.
IQRick: Paly a few weenies, hit for a few points ont eh second turn.
Sethiroph: The new channel. Interesting.
IQRick: On teh third turn, Dark Ritual/Hatred/Win.
S98lakefan: it can come quickly with the Rituals
Sethiroph: Channel
S98lakefan: yea, new channel
S98lakefan: 2nd turn even
Sethiroph: I don't like Necrologia, however.
IQRick: yeah, maybe second turn. But third turn, easy.
S98lakefan: 1st turn sewar rat, 2nd turn ritual ritual, hatred
S98lakefan: for 19
IQRick: yeah, but you need 2 rituals. Taht's not so likely.
S98lakefan: 2nd turn isnt out the realm of possibilities
IQRick: I ddint' say it was impossible.
S98lakefan: yea
Sethiroph: Mr. Moscatello, (I hope that is correct) what type of deck do you
like?
S98lakefan: you neverknow
IQRick: I prefer blue-heavy decks.
IQRick: I worry too much about my opponent showing up with somethihg
IQRick: taht will lock me down. That's not a concern when you're
counterspell heavy.
Sethiroph: Ah. A counter-mage. What's your opinion of Curiosity?
S98lakefan: true, i like the speed decks, especially red
IQRick: pretty good, if you use creatures.
Sethiroph: Sligh.
Sethiroph: That's my game.
IQRick: yeah, I try not to show up at a tournaemtn without a deck that
IQRick: features Great Realms or Cop:red standard.
IQRick: no other way to defend against it.
S98lakefan: yea Sligh, speed Black too
S98lakefan: standard?
IQRick: yep.
Sethiroph: I've been out of "circulation" for the past 8 months, so I have to
catch up.
S98lakefan: i'd play in sideboard, standard is too iffy
IQRick: go to the next tournament. You'll see 90% of the decks are REd, or
red/black or black.
IQRick: A card that works 90% of the time is good enough. And I usually pack
Recall.
Sethiroph: My last deck was White. Half of it is banned now.
S98lakefan: actually at regionals if was about 30% Sligh, 10% black, and 60%
other
S98lakefan: at least that's the way it was here
IQRick: well, after the first 2 rounds, my distribution is more likely. :)
Sethiroph: Around here it's constant reanimators.
IQRick: When I'm knocked out of a tournament, it's almost always a mono-red
deck.
Sethiroph: Black is my least favorite color, but it has incredible offensive
capabilities.
S98lakefan: normally for me its a more control based deck that beats me
S98lakefan: green is my least fav color
IQRick: yeah, green pretty mcuh sucks.
IQRick: Only Creeping Mold has made green really viable lately.
Sethiroph: Hm....Well, we are entitled to opinions. Green is my favorite.
S98lakefan: uktabi orangatan
S98lakefan: birds
S98lakefan: that's about it green for me
IQRick: yeah, Uktabi is pretty good,t oo.
IQRick: I've never been into the birds.
S98lakefan: well sorry guys but i gotta go, its been fun
Sethiroph: Why does everyone hate Green? First the Duelist assaults it, now
everywhere I see.
IQRick: righto, S98.
Sethiroph: Adieu.
IQRick: Well, Green's strength is creatures.
IQRick: But, the worst card type is creatures.
IQRick: Any green creature you cast for 4 mana or more, I can get rid of for
3 mana or less.
Sethiroph: And that is my strength. I am into tactical assaults, warfare.
Combat.
Sethiroph: But, I agree.
IQRick: all the tactics in the world don't help against Dark Banishing.
IQRick: C'mon, at the tournament level, you typically have 1 creature in
play, against 1 other creat
Sethiroph: until Green is more focused on other areas, I'll stick with Red.
IQRick: ure. IT don't take a rocket scientist to work out the battle.
Sethiroph: Yes. There are some times when I long to be a newbie.
Sethiroph: But, well, it is kill or be killed, or so the cliche goes.
IQRick: nah, then you hae someone to crush at tourneys.
Sethiroph: What do you usually place?
IQRick: 5-10. I've won a few.
Sethiroph: If you don't mind, of course.
Sethiroph: 3-8, but I've never won.
Sethiroph: I break on a critical level.
Sethiroph: So, do you ever get on to a real online service and play Magic? Or
are you strictly face-to
Sethiroph: face?
IQRick: I've played a few games via Apprentice.
IQRick: I have a few groups to play with around here.
Sethiroph: Ah. Are you in the Planeswalker's League?
IQRick: no. Well, I don't think so.
Sethiroph: Yes, that is true. So, I know it can't be true anarchy there, but
when do you usually get
Sethiroph: to play?
IQRick: uh, what does that mean?
IQRick: I play every Tuesday night at a friends house, and usually Saturday
too.
Sethiroph: My apologies. At the InQuest offices.
IQRick: I'm in New Orleans. Inquest is in New York.
Sethiroph: Or are you freelance?
Sethiroph: Ah, I see.
IQRick: I"ve never met those guys ftf.
IQRick: Yeah, Freelance.
Sethiroph: I would like to try that sometime.
Sethiroph: Seems interesting.
IQRick: fun, but I wouldn't recomment making a living at it.
Sethiroph: please, do not be offende, but what have you written? I mean, the
name is familiar, but I've
Sethiroph: been out a long, long time.
Sethiroph: Please, offended
OnlineHost:
OnlineHost: *** You are in "Special Events Room". ***
OnlineHost:
IQRick: lotsa stuff. Although I'm not in the most recent InQuest.
Draggitt: Is there a special chat 2nite
IQRick: Let's see, Treasure Chest? Gaming reviews.
Draggitt: ?
IQRick: I was in Electronic InQuest News for like 20 issues.
Draggitt: well is there
IQRick: yep, Draggitt, there is.
Draggitt: Who's da guest, Rick?
Sethiroph: Hm. Well, what do you think of sanctioned team play?
IQRick: I rather like it.
IQRick: I mean, if you can't get rid of it, you might as well legalize it.
IQRick: I guess I am. Unless Sethiroph wants to be the gues.
Draggitt: Rick who is the guest
IQRick: er, guest.
IQRick: and he's outt ahere.
Sethiroph: Yes, it seems like fun. I would like to see something like Emperor
sanctioned, but then
Sethiroph: we're talking LONG tournaments.
IQRick: hehe. I won an emperor tournament a few years ago. Well, my team
won.
IQRick: they did have such a tournament at the last PreRelease.
IQRick: I wanted to be in it, but I was still in the main tourney.
Sethiroph: The last one I played in, we continued after the emperor fell. I
won, because I had a 300
Sethiroph: card deck and all the COPs out, among other things.
Sethiroph: Like Urza Lands.
Sethiroph: Really?
IQRick: yeah.
IQRick: It was kinda cool, eveyrone wanted me to be on their team.
IQRick: Hey, Ihad a 300 card Thoughtlash deck.
Sethiroph: Sounds like fun. I can't afford to go to any of those tournaments,
etc., so I play when I
Sethiroph: can.
IQRick: It kinda worked. I actually managed to run myself outta cards a few
times.
Sethiroph: Thoughtlash.....I've heard vague talks of making that work.
Sethiroph: So, you are in New Orleans? Ever venture east any?
IQRick: sure.
IQRick: I'm from Tampa.
Sethiroph: So, you've been in Alabam, correct?
Sethiroph: Alabama
IQRick: only passing through.
Sethiroph: Of course. I would love to just "pass through". The Bible Belt,
and all that.
IQRick: you in Ala?
Sethiroph: Yes, sir.
IQRick: whereabouts?
Sethiroph: North, about 40 miles south of Huntsville.
IQRick: nah, don't think I've even passed through there.
IQRick: I take I-10 to Fla, and whatever I need to get to Atlanta.
IQRick: Hiya MOr, TomRR
Sethiroph: Understandable. IQMatthew is online. Doesn't seem to want to stop
by. Heh.
IQRick: hey, he is?
Sethiroph: Yes.
IQRick: maybe I can pull him into a chat.
IQRick: Haven't spoke iwth him in ages.
Sethiroph: All of InQuest's staff is on my buddy list. I hope you don't
mind......
IQRick: not a prob.
Sethiroph: But I would like to speak to any of you when it is convenient.
Sethiroph: Merci.
IQRick: well, I'm here. IQMatthew isn't staff anymore (that's why I haven't
spoken with him in so
IQRick: long)
Sethiroph: So, well, I feel like I have asked too much. Is there anything you
would just like to say?
IQRick: geez, you haven't asked me anything.
Sethiroph: Oh. That is too bad. Has he found employment elsewhere?
IQRick: yeah, he's doing the freelance thing.
Sethiroph: Morbius, you are remarkably silent. Would you like to say
anything?
Sethiroph: Hm...
Sethiroph: Too late.
Sethiroph: That is good. I have the gamer's dream; Work for TSR or WotC.
Sethiroph: But, buisnesses seem to rely on academic achievement, where I
sorely falter.....
IQRick: heh, my academic achievement hasn't helped me a bit in the freelance
world.
IQRick: I've got a masters in mathematics.
Sethiroph: Ah, yes, but I'll only have a diploma. Standard.
Sethiroph: I wonder if InQuest would be interested in software? Hm.....
IQRick: I dunno, they are expansing like nuts.
Sethiroph: That is good. They sorely need to update their online coverage,
however.
IQRick: no kidding. I"ve been telling Wizbuddy that for over a year.
Sethiroph: I would be more than happy to do something like that. I "sell" my
services to make pages.
Sethiroph: I'm not incredible, but I'm reliable.
Sethiroph: I would update daily.
Sethiroph: Eh, well.
IQRick: well, bring it up with Wizbuddy.
Sethiroph: Who is that? Is that his SN?
IQRick: yep. He's the Wiz guy responsible for AOL stuff. He was the first,
before
IQRick: it more or less became standard to put "IQ" in front of your name.
Sethiroph: Ah. I would love to do it, even for free if I could. I would just
like the exposure and
Sethiroph: practice.
IQRick: well, that sorta thing is all his call.
IQRick: I"m just a freelancer, after all.
Sethiroph: I understand entirely.
Sethiroph: Do you do any work for anyone else?
Sthprkinca: SUP!
Sethiroph: The room fills...A bit late.......
Sthprkinca: SUP!
IQRick: Several others.
IQRick: Hiya, Sth.
Sthprkinca: HOW ARE YOU
Sthprkinca: J/K
Sthprkinca: DONT ANSWER
IQRick: Tuff STuff Gamer, a few piddly ones.
IQRick: I'll be in Duelist in a few months.
IQRick: Hey, Sth, you can press the "caps lock" key now.
Sethiroph: Excellent!.
Sthprkinca: I DONT WANT TO
Sthprkinca: FINE I WILL MEANY
Sthprkinca: there happy
Sthprkinca: l8r
Sthprkinca: later
Sethiroph: No offense, but The Duelist is my primary magazine. InQuest just
seems too....beginner?
Sethiroph: That was impolite.
IQRick: heh, you're being kind. Juvenile is fine.
IQRick: target audience is a little bit younger than Duelist.
Sethiroph: I like the humor, but some of it is just too childish.
Sethiroph: I like Mr. Swan, but he seems to be a little too out of it
sometimes.
Sethiroph: What is the age target?
IQRick: 12-15, I think.
IQRick: I've had my stuff edited "down" if you know what I mean.
Sethiroph: Oh. I am sixteen. I understand, now.
Sethiroph: It's just, like in Stumpers, no one seems to challenge Mrs.
Moursund.
IQRick: hey, she's easily challenged. I remember when she was quite clueless
in Magic.
Sethiroph: !?
IQRick: But, somehow, she became the expert, and I became the nobody.
IQRick: Such is life.
IQRick: I was at this one tourney, ...
IQRick: and she ruled that a Spirit LInked Serra Angel, when affected by
Sethiroph: Hey, you're a high-up to me. You've got what I dream of. Just
remember that.
IQRick: a forcefield, would deal 1 damage, but
IQRick: grant 4 life to the controller of Spirit Link.
IQRick: Heh, yeah, no matter where you are, there's always a mountain to look
up at.
Sethiroph: Ooh....That's rough. You wouldn't happen to know what rank judge
she is, do you?
IQRick: oh, 50th or somethhing. She's a goddess, and beyond rank.
Sethiroph: So, she's level 5, like Mr. Wylie?
IQRick: I just don't know, dude.
Sethiroph: My thanks for attempting, anyway.
Sethiroph: May I ask your personal opinion on something?
IQRick: go for it.
IQRick: The judge rating system is mostly trash anyway.
Sethiroph: How much, on average, do you think a player needs to spend on
cards (boosters, etc.),
Sethiroph: per month?
Sethiroph: And please don't say it is all skill.
IQRick: lessee...
IQRick: I get 2 boxes of each main set, and 1 box of each expansion.
Sethiroph: ....
Sethiroph: That is not good.
Sethiroph: For me, at least.
IQRick: I dunno, $50 tops, if you don't do any trading.
IQRick: If you're clever, and trade, you could get by on $20.
Sethiroph: I get $20 spending money/month. I can't get a job.
IQRick: how old are you?
Sethiroph: Hm....That's just it; I have no one to trade with.
Sethiroph: Sixteen.
IQRick: I was pushing a lawnmower around when I was 12.
IQRick: Get dad's mower. I'm sure they have lawns in Alabame.
Sethiroph: No one will hire me for chores. I've tried.
IQRick: Huh.
IQRick: Never had that problem.
IQRick: Edging? Cutting down trees?
Sethiroph: I was almost hired at a card shop once, because I knew the entire
InQuest player's guide and
Sethiroph: prices.
IQRick: when I was 12-18, all I did was yard work.
Sethiroph: Nothing.
IQRick: laying sod?
IQRick: walk around your neighborhood, and keep at it.
Sethiroph: But, they went out of buisness, which is a common phenomena around
here.
Sethiroph: Not even that.
Sethiroph: I've considered articles for Dragon, or adventures for Dungeon.
IQRick: there's no money in that.
IQRick: Their a pain to work for, and the pay is crap.
IQRick: Go door to door.
IQRick: Somebody somewhere is too lazy to do somehign hot and sweaty.
Sethiroph: I know it. Alot of times that is me. *laughs*
IQRick: Heh, I had a perpetual tan all throuhg my teens.
Sethiroph: But, seriously, I would love to compete on a professional level.
I've gotten close only once
Sethiroph: .
Sethiroph: And that was the last tournament I was in.
IQRick: well, hate to break it to you, but Magic tourneys are a lottery.
IQRick: Even if you're 4 times as good as eeryone else, your chances of
winning
IQRick: a 128 player tournament are under 50%.
Sethiroph: Yes, yes, all too true. I don't plan on doing it "professionally",
just something
IQRick: Magic is not a career choice.
Sethiroph: to get my name somewhere.
IQRick: well, hang in there, you'll get your 15 minutes of fame for
something.
Sethiroph: To be recognized. I have the skill, just not the cards.
IQRick: Of cousre, I still feel like I"m waiting for mine. :)
IQRick: nonsense. Play in Sealed deck tournaments.
Sethiroph: I may sound like a braggart, but I'm not the only one to say that.
IQRick: Cards are irrelvant there.
Sethiroph: Sealed decks are some of the most difficult for me to find.
Sethiroph: The closest card shop to me is in Huntsville, 40 miles.
Sethiroph: A small commute normally, but not when you cannot drive.
IQRick: yeah, that is a drag.
Sethiroph: But, enough of my woes.
Sethiroph: Oh, dear, it is 10:10. I have not kept you, have I?
IQRick: nah, I'm doing other stuff.
IQRick: I'm writing a letter,
IQRick: and IMing with IQMatthew.
Sethiroph: I have not noticed he signed back on.
Sethiroph: Ah, I see him.
Sethiroph: That is odd. Everyone seems to want to leave.
IQRick: well, lotsa people are wandering around looking for other p
IQRick: eople htey know.
